Robert Morgret

• Location: Brownsville, Texas
• Mission objectives: Working in conjunction with To Every Tribe Ministries Robert is working to reach the Deaf of Mexico with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His heart’s desire is for their salvation, for the eventual planting of indigenous Deaf churches, and to equip them to grow in their walk with the Lord.  He also desires to see Deaf people become productive members of Mexican society. For the last two years (2008 to present), Robert has lived in the vicinity of Brownsville, Texas in order to make frequent trips into Mexico.  This is for the purpose of locating people within the Deaf community, and to learn Mexican Sign Language, or LSM.  We are currently unaware of any work being done among the Deaf in Mexico from a theologically Reformed perspective.

Robert himself is Deaf.  Because of this, he has a level of access to the Deaf community that few hearing people have, which is a great advantage for him.  In preparing to become a full-time resident missionary within Mexico, Robert has to accomplish four major goals: 1) Raise sufficient financial support (approximately $3000/month); 2) Complete his theological and missiological studies through To Every Tribe’s missionary program.  [In order to expedite this process, we have contacted Deaf Reformed Ministries.  Three Deaf pastors will be working with Robert over the next year to teach him systematic theology.  Then Robert will attend TETM's missiology classes at their facility in Texas and be taught through an interpreter];  3) Become fluent in Mexican Sign Language and adequate in Spanish. 4) Develop a ministry team.

All missionaries serving with To Every Tribe Ministries are eventually sent to the field as part of a team.  This is biblical and far safer than working as a solo missionary.  For a Deaf missionary, the creation of a team is even more crucial.  Therefore, we are looking for people, both hearing and Deaf, to partner with Robert in this very exciting and unique work.  Ideally, American missionaries working with Robert need to know (or learn) English, Spanish, American Sign Language, and Mexican Sign Language.

The goal of To Every Tribe is to facilitate all the necessary training and instruction to make this ministry in Mexico a reality.  It is Robert’s desire to get into Mexico as soon as possible with a team of ministry partners who can work together with him to effectively reach the Deaf with the Good News of the Lord Jesus in a language they can understand.
